Surgery refers to a procedure that involves incision or destruction of tissues for the aim of structurally altering the human body or for the diagnosis or treatment of diseases that cause localised alteration.Based on the degree of risk surgery is broadly classified into Major surgery and Minor surgery.Major sugery requires hospitalization and special care whereas minor surgery carries a low risk and results in few complications. Nephrectomy, Cesarean section, Organ replacement, Heart surgeries are some of the examples of major surgery. Cataract surgery, Dental restorations, Breast biopsy, Laparoscopy are some of the examples of minor surgery.
Anesthesia is the use of medication to prevent pain during surgery and other procedures. These drugs are called anesthetics. They can be given by inhalation, injection, eye drops, topical lotion, spray or skin patch. They lead to loss of emotion and consciousness. They are classified into Local Anaesthesia, general Anaesthesia, regional Anaesthesia, counscioussedation. Lidocaine, Halothane, Midazolam, Bupiacaine are some of the examples of anesthesthic drugs.
